Those first few weeks with your baby truly fly by, don’t they? You’re getting to know your little one, adjusting to a new rhythm and before you know it, they’ve already changed. This is exactly why I recommend scheduling your newborn session when your baby is between 2–3 weeks old as it’s the perfect window to capture those beautiful, sleepy poses that everyone adores.

At this stage, babies tend to fall into a deep sleep, which makes it easier to gently position them while keeping them calm and content. Every baby is different of course and I never want anyone to feel pressured about timing, ego I always book a full day for these sessions.

“EVERY BABY IS DIFFERENT AND THAT’S WHAT MAKES EVERY SESSION UNIQUE.”

Where Your Session Takes Place

Most of my newborn sessions take place in my home studio in Hamworthy, where I have everything I need to make the experience relaxed and stress-free. However, I completely understand that sometimes, especially for new parents, travelling so soon after birth can feel like a lot.

Two siblings in white shirts share sweet moments of affection while lying on light colored bedding.

If you prefer, I’m more than happy to come to you as long as you’re in Dorset (and parts of Hampshire). I bring my newborn setup with me including wraps, a few background options and everything needed to create the same cosy feel you’d get in the studio.

What to Expect During Your Newborn Session

I like to keep things simple and timeless. The focus is always on your baby, soft light, clean setups and a few pops of colour. I use minimal props (no boxes or crates) because I believe your little one should be the story. If you have something meaningful, like a special blanket or teddy, bring it along, I love adding personal touches.

Including Family in Your Session

Many parents arrive thinking, “We’ll just do photos of the baby.” I always encourage a few family portraits too, even if you don’t feel photo‑ready yet. You’ll never regret being in the frame with your little one. Siblings are absolutely welcome and there’s always toys, books and space for breaks nearby.

A Few Tips Before Your Session

Feeding

You can feed baby just before you arrive as a full tummy helps them settle but please don't stress as it's hard enough to leave the house those first few days so you can give them a nice big feed once they get here.

dummies

If you have one please bring it along, I always have sterilised packs in the studio as they help with settling but don't worry as I'll never force baby to take one.

keepsakes

Bring any special blanket or teddy if you want to include it in your session.

relax

This is your time to relax and stare at your beautiful baby. You will also be offered a tea, coffee or hot chocolate so you can finally have a breather whilst I work my magic.

Final Thoughts

Your newborn session isn’t just about pretty pictures,  it’s about slowing down and remembering how tiny they once were. Whether you visit my Hamworthy studio or I come to you, it’s always relaxed, baby‑led and full of heart.
